Goatfish tend to band together in schools and stay in one area. I took the picture of this school of goatfish at the point off Pu’u Ola’i Makena, Maui. They are always there cruising around. The reason they are called goatfish is that they have two feelers like goatees which they use to dig in the sand for food. Like most goatfish the yellowfin variety can change color to a pinkish red, like the photo at the bottom.
