This needlefish is smaller than the Crocodile needlefish and they are often in large schools near the surface. They are hard to photograph because their color is so similar to the surface of the ocean. I wouldn’t have noticed this one if it didn’t nearly spear me in the mask as I swam by. Makena Surf.
