There is a massive school of these at Honolua Bay, its entertaining to swim among them. They get to be about 4 inches long and seem to stay in one place all the time, although I have read they will go for a month or two and then come back.

Just waiting for a meal to swim by, thats what hawkfish do. You can get pretty close because they think they are so camaflauge and can’t see them. The sound of the camera shutter usually scares them when you get a close up so you only have one shot at it. Honolua Bay, Maui.
