This is a nice picture of the teeth on a stout moray eel. They are quite variable in color, ranging from dark with light blotches to light with dark blotches. They seem to only reach about 2 feet in length. Photo Makena Surf.

I have shown some pictures of the Yellowmargin Moray before, its nice to get an idea how they can differ in color, it makes them easier to identify. You can’t see in this picture but a distinguishing mark is the dark gill opening back from the jaw. Pali Cliffs.

Very common eel in Maui coastal waters, they can be several different colors from beige to dark brown, always with white spots and a white mouth. They seem to get up to about 2-3 feet long. Olowalu.
